Dean Vendetta XM, Solid Body Electric Guitar, Mahogany Body, Trans Black Finish Quick Review!
Looks: It's great to play a guitar with something other than the typical "been there done that" body style! And the headstock shape is even better!
Tone: Not bad rock tones out of the box for what qualifies as a "cheap" guitar. Eventually you might want to replace the pickups which will make it sound even better.
Plays: You'll need to adjust the action but that's very easy to do, maybe 5 minutes if you've never done it before. Get those strings a bit closer to the neck and it plays amazingly well for a guitar in this price range, no problem here!
Fantasy: Who Plays Dean Guitars? Well, there's a lot of well known musicians who "have played Dean Guitars" but once or twice on a certain song doesn't count in my book. But if you get this Dean Vendetta XM you can certainly pretend you're actually Rik Emmett of Triumph, Rob Barrett of Canibal Corpse, Nancy Wilson of Heart (I dunno... maybe if you put on some high heels you can skip the lipstick), Eric Bloom (Blue Öyster Cult), Zakk Wylde...and more, the list is a long one.
Negatives: It could be a little sturdier and it's also very lightweight which I'll atribute to the Paulownia wood...who ever heard of Paulowonia wood? Some might appreciate a guitar that isn't too heavy for them but mass greatly affects both tone and sustain so giving this aspect a negative or positive rating depends on what you value.
Bottom line: It's a beginner guitar that looks good, plays good, and has the Dean name that will help it hold value should you ever decide to sell and move up to a better model. At this price you truly can't go wrong!
