Jasmine by Takamine S35 Acoustic Guitar Review!
The Jasmine by Takamine S35 Acoustic Guitar is definitely in the "low end" range of guitar prices and with guitars you get what you pay for. But that's not to say this would be a bad choice, it's a lot better than most sub-$100 guitars. It's not crafted with the expensive woods, intricate ivory inlays, and other materials you'd find on more expensive acoustics but few beginners are concerned with those factors. As a beginner you likely want function over form and this guitar is functional.
One thing no salesaman would ever likely point out: You'll need to be careful with it- it's kind of flimsy- but any guitar can break from rough treatment, they're not meant to be thrown around like a football, right?
I'd highly recommend changing the strings on this Jasmine Takamine S35 as soon as possible, the factory ones don't sound good and are a bit tough on the fingers.
Playability is not bad, you'd need to go north of $200 to get anything substantially better.
Typical Online testimonials (edited for brevity):
"All the reviews here and on different music websites were great--and all true! The guitar sounds so full and rich and really holds its sound nicely. I play classical personally (just bought my own guitar a a few weeks ago) but I found myself falling for this acoustic! The finish is pretty sweet (more of a matte finish), the guitar itself is pretty light and even comes with an attachment for guitar strap."
"Read a lot of reviews on Amazon, mostly good. Will have to agree with them. Very easy to tune, very light, and easy to play (even after a long time not playing, my fingers didn't hurt too bad!). You can probably ignore all the reviews about the high action. I have very small hands, so the width of the neck, as well as the strings bother me. But I'm glad to say that I'm really comfortable playing on this Jasmine!" I love it and will recommend it to beginners and for recreational use!
Bottom line: In spite of purchaser testimonials to the contrary, the Jasmine Takamine S35 Acoustic Guitar, although better than most, is beginner level, period. But if $100 is your limit and you need a guitar that plays "good enough" and sounds "good enough" this will guitar will likely pacify you for some time.
