Taylor 814CE Acoustic Dreadnought Guitar Review!
The Taylor company is a high-end instrument manufacturer, and according to their factory rep the 814CE is their best selling guitar. No wonder, the construction materials on the 814CE are excellent quality producing a warm, beautiful, crystal clear, well rounded tone: Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, a Sitka Spruce top, and the neck is tropical American Mahogany with an Ebony fingerboard, sweet! The bridge made of Ebony as well.
There are two available finish options– natural and tobacco, featuring rosette around the soundhole and inlaid body bindings- and both look fabulous.
I tried fingerpicking the Taylor 814CE and also tested it for both rhythm and lead work. In all instances, while the playing itself was seriously lacking in brilliance, lol, the tone and playability of the guitar was simply outstanding.
So what's the Taylor 814CE Expression System about? It's basically a pickup on steroids, capable of accurately reproducing the sweet tones the guitar generates and going beyond that into coloring the tone slightly. But you can't go wrong, no matter how you set the Expression System, this guitar sounds fabulous.
This guitar will set you back a few grand but it's a professional quality instrument. Whip this baby out at the next guitar pull and watch your buddy's eyes. That mix of envy and admiration along with the knowledge you just went up a few notches on the totem pole might be enough to make it worth pulling the trigger on this deal.
Just about every full time studio guitarist in Nashville I've worked with uses a Taylor for session work...what more can I say?
If you can afford to spend this kind of money on an acoustic electric guitar and do so I can pretty much assure you you'll be happier than a stoner at a Grateful Dead convention and you'll not even consider taking advantage of Amazon's liberal money-back-guarantee return policy.
