... Vox is a name with a very long tradition and stellar reputation in the musical instrument community. This AC4TV model is a practice amp and in fact a relatively expensive one but practicing and hearing great tone while doing so is not necessarily a given. The real difference here, and what makes this little gem worth every penny to anyone who values the tone aspect, is the fact it has tubes. At one time all amps were tubes and while electronics have improved greatly, and in certain specific amp-to-amp comparisons do sound like tubes, in others any guitarist with a decent ear can hear the difference. Typically clean tones sound warmer and beefier. Distorted tunes have a different harmonic content that is more pleasing to the ear. Some may dispute that but I'd advise them to listen to a cranked vintage Marshall stack vs. the current transitorized copy wannabe Marshall side-by-side and the arguement's over.

The 12AX7 in this Vox is a tube found in the preamp section of tons of sought after, vintage amps, old Fender Twins for example. The 12AX7 feeds into an EL84 power tube (the same tube as in the original AC4 amp) and the EL84 drives a Celestion 10" custom made speaker. No wonder this amp has tone to spare as you'll see mentioned often if you click through to Amazon.com and check out the customer reviews!
