Slide guitar specialists use the slide to create both chords and lead runs. Most slide players wear the slide on their middle finger but some prefer it on the ring or pinky. It takes a little work on your technique because if you don't hold it and use your index finger to damp the strings properly it sounds hideous, but once you get the idea, you'll enjoy it.
